In 2020 and in 2022, I gave guest lectures in the course Canberra Computer Science Enrichment, a voluntary program for high school students to look into interesting topics taught at the ANU. The lecture covered a practical hands-on introduction into classical planning and PDDL (a description language for classical planning problems), where students had so model a simple planning domain. Slides. Hands-on material. Video recording.
In November 2017, I was invited to discuss the potentials and risks of AI in a so-called Junior Science Working Group of a high school in Fulda, Germany, in a plenum discussion together with other experts on the field (Prof. Dr. Gepperth, Prof. Dr. Winzerling, and Dr. Quarch). (The school's news report has been taken offline after approx. 3 years.)
From 2013 to 2014 I was in charge of creating a video that promotes a planning-based assistant for setting up a complex home theater. The video further explains the applied scientific technologies on a level of abstraction tailored to the general public. Video
Between 2010 and 2017 I participated in the Girls' Day, Boys' Day, and Uni-Rallye between four to six times. In these events, in which most institutes at Ulm University (Germany) participated, small groups (approx. 15 to 20) of young students (between 8th and 13th school year) visited the Universities’ institutes to get an impression about the research done and academic studies. Each class visit took about 45 to 60 minutes, in which I explained what Artificial Intelligence means and how, in principle, it works - tailored to teenagers without any prior knowledge about Artificial Intelligence.
